Center of Effort
The Center of Effort estate lies in the foothills of the western Edna Valley, just 4.5 miles from the Pacific Shoreline. Here, the growing conditions are shaped by a rare confluence of lean sandy soils, reliable maritime breezes and nuanced exposures. Owners Bill Swanson and Rob Rossi acquired the estate precisely because of its potential to produce profound Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their winemaking operations are led by Nathan Carlson, a veteran Edna Valley winemaker with longtime personal connections to the estate. The Center of Effort winemaking philosophy is to honor the terrior- the natural expression of the fruit- while bringing an added dimension of artistry to the wine. There is nothing expedient in our approach. They embrace the detailed, labor-intensive methods that are required to produce the finest wines. Even then, only a handful of lots from each vintage are ultimately deemed worthy for designation under the Center of Effort label. The resulting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are without parallel. They represent the intersection of caretaking, skill, commitment and a passion for excellence- truly a “Center of Effort.”
